So, what do you do on the class? Here is a rough breakdown: -

• The classes are aimed at beginners but people with some experience will enjoy it as well and may actually come away with some tips and tricks. A day full of fun and variety, based in Glasgow City Centre.
• Meeting in a comfortable studio area ,with tea and coffee available, we begin with some basic information on what camera settings do, with an aim to teaching you to how to shoot your camera on full manual mode and not having to rely on Auto settings. If you come with a Compact camera the information will still be mostly relevant. However, a ‘Bridge’, Digital SLR or a Film SLR camera would be more suitable for the class and you will learn more. What is the difference between a Bridge and Compact camera? A Bridge camera has a settings wheel and a hotshoe generally, click the words to see a picture.
• Then we discuss the real issues of practical photography, what you don’t get taught in the classrooms or University’s. Tips and tricks on how to use your photos now you have them, how to make money and how to network. Also advice on what to look for when buying camera equipment.
• Studio’s can be very intimidating to new photographers as they sound very professional. This could not be further from the truth so I wanted to do a quick introduction to studio photography. I will show you what sort of equipment is available to use and how to use them with the settings on your camera. The model will then pose for a few quick photos and I will show everyone a few basic lighting set ups. This will demonstrate how the positioning of the light, model and the power settings can dramatically change the outcome of the photo.
• The last portion of the class is then a group shoot (just under an hour and a half), outdoor with a professional, agency standard, model. Located at the Squiggly Bridge in Glasgow is the ideal setting for this groupshoot. The group can try out angles, camera settings and experience what it is like to interact with an actual professional model. I will be on hand shouting out things to try and telling you why we are doing what we are doing. You can also grab me and ask for help or advice and I will try to help.
• You get given a set of notes to help you follow the information as well as being able to take them away so you have a handy reference page for  learning.
• Then as a little bonus you can email me in your favourite photo from the groupshoot. I will edit it professionally, giving you bullet points of what I have done to it. Then email you it back for you to obtain a print or use it in your portfolio as you wish.

 Venue

• The venue is my studio on Broomielaw, G1 4QN, Glasgow. It is actually really easy to find! It is across the road from the Gala Riverboat Casino, underneath the railway bridge. If you come from Glasgow central and walk down either Jamaica or Oswald Street and turn the corner at the Broomielaw towards the bridge, you can’t miss it under the bridge. There are 3 doors, a Brazilian Gym, a Car Park Archway and a big white double door that looks like an emergency exit. My door is the white one, just give it a bang if I am not hanging about outside! If you google map ’20 broomielaw glasgow’ it shows you almost exactly the right spot.
• The venue is NOT in St Andrews Square or at La Cheetah. This is my home address and last years venue, not the studio for the class. Groupon are changing the map on the deal currently but be careful not to confuse the venues.
• The classes start sharp on the time stated. If you come early, please feel free to go an grab a tea/coffee and mingle. If you arrive late, I will do my best to quickly fill in what you have missed when I get a chance but the most important stuff is first so please try to be on time.

What do you need to bring?

• A camera obviously, fully charged and with space on your memory cards. Cameras, memory cards and batteries are not provided but feel free to bring a charger to plug in if you need it.
• A warm coat as we will be outside and it is very cold on the Clyde.
• Tripods, Flash Guns and extra camera lenses are up to you. You don’t NEED them but this is an excellent time to try them out. I recommend the late afternoon classes bring a tripod if possible as the sun will be going down and you can get some nice shots with the bridge lit up.

I have never called anyone or considered any model I know a ‘Muse’. However, burlesque and pin up goddess Vendetta Vain is as close as I can come to one. We have shot SO MANY times together and every time I am more blown away than the last. She just lives as a performer and is such a stunning, fun and dirty girl with THE best body I have ever seen! Ooft! I love her to bits. Expect a good many more shots to come from Vendetta soon but enjoy them as she has moved away to the USA… NOOoooo! Who will be my new pin up goddess now she is gone?

When I put together this behind the scenes shoot, I had to get Vendetta in so you could see just how wonderful she is in front of the camera. Constantly doing facial exercises so she can handle my requests for different expressions, flirting with the camera and keeping me laughing with her dirty sense of humour.

Hi everyone!

There are some important bits of info after the list of dates so please be sure to read down to the very bottom. People who are booking for children or under 16 year old please make sure to get a permission form for them to attend.

Layout of the class: -

• We begin with 1 hours of instruction on how the camera works. What the settings do, where they are and how they effect your photographs.
• There is then another 1 hour of tips on equipment and useful information about shooting in different situations. Finishing with some notes on sharing your photographs.
• We then head outside (weather dependant) for an hour with one of our agency standard, professional models. This is to give you all a chance to fiddle about and try what we just learned.
• We finish up indoors, taking some nice portraits of the model using professional studio lighting equipment.

So by the end of the course you should be fully capable of shooting on manual mode (being in control), have a good grasp on equipment and shooting techniques. As well as having tried working with some intimidating professional equipment and a model, to see how easy it actually is.

Venue

The venue for the classes sadly changes: -

• It is currently. downstairs in the La Cheetah Club, 73 Queen Street, Glasgow, G1 3BZ. If you go in and head downstairs at the main entrance or you can go and ask at the bar and they will direct you.
• The classes start sharp on the time stated. If you come early, please feel free to go an grab a coffee once you find the venue or if you are late, I will do my best to quickly fill in what you have missed when I get a chance.

I have just secured a full time contract, working Mon-Fri, and cannot do any evening classes due to the length of hours I will be working during each day. Given the choice between a full time position and having to re-schedule 5 classes was an easy decision and while it is going to cause a little hassle for some of you, I hope you can understand my choice. Those booked on one of the cancelled classes can choose from any upcoming dates, I have added a good number into June as well as an additional weekend in Feb. Your original booking info is already with me, so it is just a case of picking a new date and letting me know you were on one of the cancelled dates. Beginner Fashion and Portraiture Class

• The first classes will be aimed at beginners and will be full of fun and variety, based in Glasgow City Centre, Queen Street.

• We then meet up with a top Scottish model and proceed with an outdoor fashion groupshoot. The group can try out angles, camera settings and experience what it is like to interact with an actual professional model.
• Finally we head up to the local studio for hire. Studio’s can be very intimidating to new photographers as they sound very professional. This could not be further from the truth as you will see when we meet the owner and quickly show you what sort of equipment is available to use. The studio is incredible, full of lights and equipment to make your photoshoot more easy and pleasant. The model will then pose for a portrait session and I will show everyone a few different lighting set ups. This will demonstrate how the positioning of the light, model and the power settings can dramatically change the outcome of the photo.
• Everyone will be given an information sheet with links for helpful websites and a brief overview of what was discussed.
• Then as a little bonus you can email me in your favourite photo from your day in the class. I will then edit it professionally for you and email you it back for you to obtain a print or use it in your portfolio as you wish.

The price for the Beginner Fashion and Portrait Class comes in at £250 with a 10% deposit required to book your place. There is a 48 hour cancellation in place to cover the costs and help keep the class numbers full.

I wanted to add a few FAQs after getting lots of phone calls asking similar questions on these classes.

• What size are the classes?
• The classes will be made up of 15 people there to learn, myself and the model.

• I have a compact/bridge camera, is this suitable for the class?
• Yes, however,  due to the limitations of these smaller cameras. Parts of the 4 hour course will not be as beneficial to you as those with an D/SLR. Particularly, the studio in the last hour although you will still be able to take photos, you will be very limited in terms of lighting styles.

• I have a son/daughter/etc who is under 16. Is the course suitable for them?
• Yes! The course is completely child friendly with no nudity. However, if they are under 16 they are required to bring along a signed permission form from a parent or guardian. These forms can be obtained off me, just drop me a little email.

• I work during the week/at weekends. When will these classes take place?
• The classes will start at the end of September and run for at least 6 months, initially. There will be both weekend and weekday classes, with some classes in the evening to allow for every work schedule. Booking a place/date/time is required in advance so I should be able to accommodate for anyone’s availability.

• Hi, I have booked the course with you and just wondered when they begin?
• I am currently just waiting for the Groupon deal to finish so that I can confirm numbers and arrange the necessary amount of classes. Behind the Scenes with Vendetta Vain!

The newest edition of the Scottish Weddings Magazine, the Boudoir special… I do like a bit of Boudoir! It is apparently the biggest issue they have printed yet! Available in shops as well as all of the wedding shows throughout the country. They approached me a while ago regarding a boudoir feature as I am now one of the most popular boudoir photographers not only in Glasgow but Scotland wide! I answered a few questions and sent in a few images of which the following have been chosen.

I was also lucky enough to have been quoted a few times: -

David Kane of David Kane Photography says, “Women today are very aware of their body image and are often much more confident with the way they look. For this reason, most women use boudoir photography as an opportunity to give their partner a special, private gift for a wedding, anniversary or birthday.”

… David Kane agrees, “Being relaxed and having fun is the biggest tip. Ask the photographer if you can bring music to the photoshoot to help you relax. Starting in the least revealing look can also help ease nerves.”

My job was to wander around for the 2 days and obtain good photos of all the speakers as well as some reportage style images of the event itself. I also went along to the speakers dinner on the 10th of august where Legend of Kremlin planned to give a special award. As I sneaked around the room firing off shots I had no idea the company I was in until I saw the event schedule the following day.

11th

I arrived to find my photo-pass sitting amongst the Nintendo stands and the event organizer, Alexa, with a big smile on her face. The place looked great with Nintendo showcasing the new Nintendo 3DS and Mario Kart game. As a geek and an avid gamer I was curious and pleased to see that almost all of the talks were actually subjects I was interested in hearing about. The festival was split into 2 sections. Section 1 was the conference for businesses and corporate chat. Section 2 was the public sessions with advice and demonstrations.

In the conference the best presentation of the day fell to Playgen with their comedic, fun and interactive presentation on Gamification. The facial recognition talk by Image Metrics was also very impressive and the day was rounded off by the heated ‘Great Debate’. Then out of the blue Edge Magazine dropped a bomb! An award to the 4 designers behind one of the best games of the year, LA Noire by Rockstar Games. I managed to steal these 4 heroes for a little photo before they were mobbed after the presentation.

In the public session there was a lot going on. Ian Livingstone, basically a god among geeks, was opening the speaking. Founder of Games Workshop, writer of the Fighting fantasy books and man behind Lara ‘Ooft’ Croft… I pretty much just mumbled and panicked every time I walked by him…

Followed on by chats from the Director of GAMESbrief, Nicholas Lovell and Kevin Beimars from Straandlooper Animation. The public session ended with the massive BAFTA Young Persons Game Designer Workshop. Fun filled and full of advice from some of the industries big names. Kids came in and got a chance to put their game ideas before the experts and getting a head start on competition for this BAFTA award.

I then joined everyone for a much needed drink and a mingle!

12th

As I came into the building and headed for the conference I was immediately impressed by the first speaker. Steve Ackerman of Somethin’ Else was giving a talk on using different mediums to produce games and he was showing off one of their newest games The Nightjar. A free game for the Apple generation. So why was this different? It was an audio only game! Amazing, it looked and sounded so impressive as well as a little scary. Apple users, download this and play it in the dark.

Next came Mark Gerhard, CEO of Jagex Games Studio – Creators of one of the biggest online multi-player MMO games, Runescape. As a big MMO fan I was in awe to meet this huge(literally) gaming guru. Following on from Mark was a couple of business aimed talks on where gaming is going, funding, etc.

The public session today was a buzz thanks to almost a whole day of presentations and workshops. The day opening with a talk from the legend Ian Livingstone again but the days focus was all about the games on show… Beauty Town, a new facebook game was a popular showcase. As soon as this finished the room began to burst for the 2 final presentations. Disney Universe game-play and the new Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword preview! Even I was peeing my pants a little about these.

Disney Universe looked great, kind of like the Lego games but with so much Disney it hurt. Zelda, shown on the Wii, had people trying to squeeze in for a look. Nintendo reps slashed, spun and shot there way through a series of levels in the game. It looks fantastic! Best game I have seen come for the Wii.

And then before I knew it, I was on the train home to edit an incredible 1600 odd photos from the 2 and a bit days. I can’t wait till next year which is already being pencilled as bigger and better!

One of Bizarre Magazine’s features is that it runs a community for alternative models called Ultra Vixens. Giving them profiles to advertise themselves and affiliate with the magazine. They also use members photos as content and run competitions in the community for new Cover Girls. The last winner of this competition was actually a Glasgow girl! Well, she used to be as I believe she has moved back to the US now (booo). The super sexy Skin!

Now the running for a new cover girl is on and when I got this months Bizarre Magazine I was very pleasantly surprised!

Not only one model I know from Glasgow but two!! Miel and Emzamara. I have shot with Miel a few times before and actually had her help out with make up a few times also. It is great to see her featured in a quarter page spread.

Emzamara or Emily as we know her better on my website is a bit more special to me (sorry Miel!). I found Emily one day when I was at work and approached her to model for me. She then found a love for it and has been modelling more and more since. Not only that but she has been extremely popular too! I feel so proud to have been the one who noticed her and picked her out. Not that it was hard with her stunning curly red hair, cheeky little smile or her perfect body. She was featured, with one of my photographs of her being used, in the ‘favourite entries of the month’ section along with five others who received praise from Bizarre model Nina Kate.

I would LOVE to see Emily go on and win this competition, getting her own Bizarre cover shoot and model agency deal. She could do so well in the future and whatever happens, I am sure she will! Check out our previous shoot here.

This caps off an impressive run for Glasgow models in popular glamour magazines of late. With girls such as Nicole and Julie featuring in Front Magazine and Vivi Sterling getting on the cover of Bizarre Magazine with Fae a few months ago.

Hopefully the run will continue… Maybe… You will be one of those girls? Maybe… Another of my photos will be used? MAYBE… It will be a photo I take of you being used? What do you think… Answers on an email to me telling me you want to shoot!!!

After such a long drive with so many stops it was approaching sunset time. We drove around the island of Skye to try and find a good spot for a sunset. We drove up to a point on the hills overlooking the sea and sat and watched as the sun sunk down. I was in bed for 8pm I was so shattered and we headed back the next day. More trips to Skye are planned for the future as we saw so little of it this time round.

‘Oh! It’s Laura!’ I say with a smile… My mother gets all excited and starts asking how I know her etc etc. So I direct her here to Laura’s page on my website and tell her to have a little look and read.

I personally think the show is pretty rubbish but seeing someone that I have not only met but photographed was wonderful! My mother has now became her biggest fan ha ha. I also had to snicker at Paddy and have since come to love his very cheeky ’Paddy-isms‘…

I spoke to Laura after seeing her on TV and apparently she literally cannot go anywhere without being recognized. I saw on her Facebook that she was even being followed around shops! Here she is with all the girls from the series, (Used with her permission) top row, second in from the left.

Already have a shoot planned for Laura in 2011 so expect to see more of her on here and enjoy the rest of her banter before the season of Take Me Out finishes, she is shining a light for Glasgow!

A few complications meant we didn’t have a lot of time to shoot but each photographer paired off with a model and a dress. I was lucky enough to be matched up with Nicole! Although I did manage to sneak in some group shots at the end as well as a few candid shots with my 35mm film SLR. I felt SO sorry for Nicole though, the outfit was tiny and it was literally freezing. I had a t-shirt on and was cold for about 4 days after the shoot so god knows how she managed but she did and I am very pleased with how her and my new camera held up.

I have already started making plans to shoot some more of David’s collection in the studio at some point in 2011. His dark designs and imagination is fantastic, very much looking forward to working with him again.

There was no real plan, I just wanted to have fun with her and try and cheer her up. We then headed to Contrast studio and met up with Illusion Controlled make up. Who later shouted at me for not telling her who the model was finding out she was a Playboy model haha. Iveta broke out a series of bodysuits and we tried different lighting and posing to convey some different styles. I had such a hard time narrowing down the images, they were all amazing! I will certainly be revisiting them at a later date to edit some more.

To finish off the day, we headed up to my derelict studio. Iveta grabbed some braces and a bright red wig and we done some edgy glamour shots. She than ran away with another photographer for another shoot. The next day I was walking up the street and Iveta, who was having a coffee waiting on her train, literally pounced on me as I walked by! I got such a fright haha. She has been up visiting since and I am glad to say she is not giving up modelling just yet, phew!

She then broke out a whip and some vintage lingerie and we tried a few darker, sexier images. Even the studio owner comments on Pearly every time she comes in for a shoot, something he doesn’t do to any other models I shoot with. She really is special and to top it all off, her tattoo work is fantastic.

Nicole was one of the more experienced models that took part in my series and I was surprised and delighted that she fancied it. She told me how much she loved Front Magazine and wanted to be in it so this shoot was perfect for her. Some models blow you away right from the start with their presence and Nicole was one of those models. She was so confident and comfortable, bursting with ideas and imagination. Not to mention cheeky and full of giggles! The shoot flew by and the images were fantastic! I also suggested trying the bathroom out as I had never shot in there and I am so glad we did! She looks amazing and I am over the moon with the images. She even jumped into the shower at the end of the shoot because I was telling her for my love of sheer clothing! We got on really well and we are already planning some new shoots in 2011 that will be amazing so be sure to check back then.

I have since decided that Nicole was my favourite model of 2010 (Sorry girls!) and guess who I saw in Front Magazine in the edition after this shoot, on a page all to herself? That’s right, Nicole! The edition after even featured another Glasgow girl so it seems as though she has made Front Magazine like the Scots finally.

I shot with Stacey in the studio at the start of the year, she is stunning! I wanted to get her in something sexier for sure and she wanted to get involved with the casual glamour series, brilliant! Stacey has curves in all the right places, cute little tattoo’s and is totally hilarious! I love, love, love working with her and this shoot was no exception. Also, Stacey and I enjoyed a good old jaffa cake fest afterwards too, the perfect way to top off a successful photoshoot.

My trigger for the lights broke so we couldn’t fire off the lights! I then broke a tooth trying to fix it. We gave up and took the shoot to a nearby alleyway outside, luckily it was dry and sunny! Harley got to lie about in the sun posing while Lisa got to play about on an amazing bike that the make up artist had arranged a loan of. The shoot went well after that and we all had a good giggle along the way. As a bonus we all got a little shot on the bike hehe

Kai Hart got in touch about doing this and came round to shoot a little set. Then shortly afterwards she asked if she could come back to shoot another one with her friend who had been on a break from modeling and wanted to get back into it, Krystine Obscene. Kai is gorgeous so having her back was my pleasure and I recognized her friend Krystine so was keen on getting her in front of the camera too. I shot them both solo for a little before pairing them up for a little girl girl shoot. They brought cakes and sweets and all I will say is I was finding bits of hundreds and thousands for weeks after the shoot!

I immediately emailed her and we agreed to work on something down the line. When I started doing my casual glamour series she got in touch and wanted to take part. We started off in the studio though doing some nude work and then retired back to the flat where she stripped off and started sliding about the satin sheets.

Steph has been a good friend for a while now after trying to set up shoots for over a year. One thing or another always got in the way and finally we got together to work on my little casual glamour series. It was her first shoot but she done great! After a few little shots up in the derelict we went back to my flat and had a little mess around. I adore her little star tattoos!
