Some of you might not have a clue what Lomography is, I had never heard of it until we got some of the camera range into the shop I worked in.
Basically, it is an new style of artistic, experimental snapshot using a mixture of vintage and analogue cameras combined with out of date film. A couple of students in Austria started the style when they found a small Russian made camera called the Lomo Kompakt Automat.
Lomography created their ’10 Golden Rules’ and from this has spawned an international movement of approxamitly a million Lomographers worldwide. These rules are a definition of the approach and mindset of these creative individuals: -
- Take your camera everywhere you go
- Use it anytime – day and night
- Lomography is not an interference with your life, but part of it
- Try the shot from the hip
- Approach the objects of your lomographic desire as close as possible
- Don’t think
- Be fast
- You don’t have to know beforehand what you captured on film
- Afterwards either
- Don’t worry about any rule
The Lomography website is also an amazing community! Offering some wonderful features such as: -
- A shop – Selling all the Lomography products.
- Membership - Unlimited photo storage to registered members, including a profile page to share your work and the ability comment, review and write content.
You can also follow them on a host of networking websites, featured on the bottom of their home page.
Personally, I am a proud Lomographer! I was never really into film cameras much until I was introduced to the Lomography range by the Fat Buddha Store in Glasgow. I currently have the Fisheye 2, Fisheye Underwater Case and the Actionsampler . As well as a selection of Lomography 35mm films. I like to use the Fisheye 2 for candid shots during photo shoots and keep the actionsampler for days out with my friends and capturing the madness. I got the underwater case for a recent trip to Egypt as I knew we would be snorkling, oh boy was it worth it!
Below is a small sample of some of the shots I have personally taken and I fully plan on buying a few more cameras from the range in the future.

I really like and appreciate your article. Want more.
Hrmm which was weird, my comment got eaten. Anyway I desired to state that it is nice to know that someone else also mentioned this when i had trouble locating the same info elsewhere. This was the initial place that explained a better solution. Thanks.
Interesting read , I’m going to spend more time reading about this subject
